Mr. Winford (Wint) James Owens, age 88, of Opp, Alabama passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp, Alabama after a short illness.

Mr. Wint will be remembered as quite a character in his younger days, but always as someone who loved his family and grandchildren with everything he had. Papa, as he was known to his family, could always be counted on for an adventure, whether it was fishing, playing checkers, peddling vegetables, working in the garden, or buying junk food!  He was always into something!  An entrepreneur at heart, he could sell anything to make a dollar!

In his later years, dementia took a lot of wind from his sails, but he almost always had a smile and a wave when you passed his house.  Mr. Owens is survived by his son, Larry Carnley and his wife, Ruthie; grandchildren, Gail Hayes (Harrison), Melissa Pierce (Terry), Samantha Russell (Wayne), Chandra Holet, Rusty Adams (Wendy) and Tracy Mixon (Chase); 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Owens, son and daughter-in law, Billy G. Carnley and Oki Carnley; brothers, Jess Owens, Hayes Owens, Wilburn Owens, Edlow Owens and Dan Owens; sisters, Gladys Maddox, Ola Grissett, Leanna Gray, Minnie Owens, Mollie Mason and Bessie Qualls; and parents, Sam Owens and Anna Rushing Owens.

Graveside services for Mr. Winford "Wint" Owens will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 5, 2023 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before service at Wyatt Funeral Home.  Serving as pallbearers are Eli Russell, Max Russell, Trevor Hayes, Tad Tisdale, Brayden Tisdale and Rusty Adams.
