Wendell Samuel "Sam"
Powell
Jan 5, 1941 — Aug 30, 2026
Wendell Samuel “Sam” Powell passed away peacefully in Andalusia, AL, on August 30, 2026.
He was born in Opp, AL, on January 5, 1941, and preceded in death by parents, Agnes and Bill Powell; and siblings, Billie Elmore, Bobbie Elmore, Willis Powell and Daniel Powell.
Sam is survived by his wife, Marilyn Eiland Parducci Powell; children, Laura Dulka & husband, John, Danny Powell & wife, Lindsay, and Tammy Miller & husband, Aaron; stepsons, Morgan Parducci & wife, Lindsay, and Simon Parducci; grandchildren, Scott Ward, Chad Joyner, Sam Dulka, Abby Dulka, Hanna Dulka, Chloe Powell, Aliyah Miller and Ayden Miller; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Sue Johnson, Annette Reeves, Faye Nelson, and Linda Holloway.
Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). His service took him and his family overseas to Japan and the Philippines, where they lived for nearly five years, before they returned home to Alabama. He went on to continue his service to others in a second career with the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail.
For decades, he also enjoyed raising cattle on his farm in Andalusia, Alabama — a place that brought him great pride and contentment. His door was always open to family and friends who came to visit, and he cherished the time spent with them there.
His family will have a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
