Obituary

Exodus 20:12 gives us the commandment that we are to honor our father and mother that our days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Tessie Ree Hudson Morgan was a recipient of that promise. She departed this life at the age of 101 on Saturday, January 28, 2023. She honored her parents, Perry and Lovie Hudson, with her life of hard work, integrity, and selfless love. She was the primary caregiver for both of them in their last days. She also shared her home with her mother-in-law, Jessie Taylor Morgan, from the time of Tess' and Albert's marriage until Jessie's death in 1985. Never harsh or argumentative words were heard from this relationship.

Tess was an example of a Proverbs 31 woman to her husband and her girls. She was the loving wife of Albert Benjamin (A B) Morgan for 56 years until his death in 1999. They were partners in their life – each working hard and long to insure that their daughters, Donnacella, Linda Gayle and Patricia Anne had the things they needed to have a wonderful childhood and were prepared to be productive citizens in their adulthood.

She worked in sewing factories from her teenage years until she was 84 years old, and there were no more factories to work for. Covington Industries in Opp, Alabama was her employer for over 50 years until they closed. Serving as a supervisor for many of those years, she was loved by those who worked with her. Bookkeeping for A. B. Morgan Produce was her second job each day. A great cook and seamstress was part of who she was. Tess was a wonderful hostess at a moment's notice. Albert often invited people to eat a meal with them or to have delicious glasses of lemonade. He was proud of her and often bragged on her skills.

Tess was preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers and sisters: Carlie, Marvin, Horace, Doris, Callie, Doss, Ovie and Armedia. Her daughter, Donnacella, was killed in an automobile accident in 1979. Albert's death occurred in 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Gayle (Earl) Henderson, and Patricia (Frank) Davis; son-in-law, Benjamin (Kitty) Caldwell; eight grandchildren, Laura (Jonathan), Kim (Wes), Judith (Jim), Ben (Leslie), Holly (Hamp), Rachel (Charles), Heather (Chris), and Stacy (Rob); and 19 great-grandchildren. Though she was the last in her generation, she has numerous surviving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tessie Ree Hudson Morgan will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from Weed Baptist Church with burial following in Weed Cemetery.
