Mrs. Martha Jane Simpler, age 90, of Pensacola, Florida (formerly of Opp) passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Martha was born in Andalusia, Alabama on January 10, 1931 to her late parents, Dora Mae & Millard Nelson. She worked in the kitchen at both Opp Health & Rehab and Mizell Memorial Hospital. A lot of people enjoyed her great cooking over the years. Martha also worked in the sewing factory and cotton mills.

She was a great seamstress and loved to sew for others. When she became a resident at the Rosewood Nursing Home she took her sewing machine with her. She enjoyed sewing for herself and making repairs for other residents. She crocheted blankets for each of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand-pup, Debo. A lot of people were recipients of Martha's love and kindness.

Mrs. Simpler is survived by her daughter, Susan Gibson; grandchildren, Contessia Gibson, and Meghan Anderson & Louis; great-grandchildren, Gabryn, Taivyn & Kastyn Anderson; and brother, Elijah Nelson & Elaine. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Q.P. Simpler; and son-in-law, Andy Gibson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jane Simpler will be held at 3 pm Sunday, May 16, 2021 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel. Jimmy Aaron will be officiating. Visitation for friends will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. A private burial will be held in Sanford Baptist Church Cemetery.
