Mrs. Martha Wallace "Josie" Floyd, age 85, of Ariton, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February
29, 2024, at Southeast Health in Dothan. She was born June 10, 1938, in Opp, Covington
County, Alabama, to Milton Andrew Sr and Edna Cooper Wallace.
Mrs. Floyd attended Opp City Schools and Troy State College (now Troy University), where she
received a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. She later returned to work toward a
master's degree in education. She taught school in Alabama and Georgia and later joined her
husband, James, as a partner in real estate and auction through their company. There, she served
as bookkeeper, assistant broker, and later, in 2009, broker until her retirement in 2013.
Mrs. Floyd was predeceased by her parents, husband James Ira Floyd Sr., son James Ira Floyd Jr.
(Jimbo), Mother-in-Law Martha Hays Floyd, and Father-in-Law James Parker Floyd. She is
survived by two sons, Jonathan Clay Floyd (Clay) of Ariton, Joel Isaac Floyd (Jody), and his
wife, Voncila Johnston Floyd. Two grandchildren, Hayes Isaac Floyd, Jordan Floyd Payne, and
her husband Phillip Chase Payne, and two great-grandchildren, Brooks Taylor Payne and Waylon
Chase Payne, all of Ariton. Also surviving are one sister, Margery Lester (Sis) of Mobile, brother
Dr. Milton Andrew Wallace Jr. (Tony) and his wife, Shannon Senn Wallace of Mobile,
Sister-in-Law Martha Floyd Avant of Troy, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Wallace "Josie" Floyd will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 3, 2024 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Ray W. Floyd and Larry Jackson will be officiating with Tony Wallace, Ray W. Floyd, Chase Payne, Jody Floyd, Hayes Floyd and Clay Floyd serving as pallbearers.
