Obituary

Sarah Juanita Blocker Rogers gained her heavenly wings and became an “Angel” November 5, 2026. “Angel” was the nickname given to her by close friends. Born to Melvin and Elvira Blocker on February 15, 1936, she was their tenth child. Her siblings all which preceded her in death were D.J., a female infant that died shortly after birth, Wilton, Dock, Mary, Louise, Grover, Wade and Betty.

She married her soulmate James Roland Rogers (J.R.) December 24, 1955. They spent many years together until his passing April 25, 1991. J.R.’s work with the Alabama Highway Department moved them to Montgomery, Dothan and ultimately Troy, Alabama where they made their home for many years.

Juanita joined and was an active member of Southside Baptist Church Troy for many years. She loved the years she spent teaching the children at the Southside Church Kindergarten. She was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School classes, took part in WMU, Leader of GA’s and served on several committees… she loved her church and her church family. Following her time as a kindergarten teacher she became the Children’s Librarian at Troy Public Library. She genuinely enjoyed her time working at the library. She also was active in the Friends of the Library organization and helped raise money to buy items for the Troy Library. She volunteered at Edge Memorial Hospital with the Auxiliary.

Along the way she made many friends. After retirement she made many great memories with friends and family traveling the United States and the world. She often marveled that she never imagined that she could see as much of the world as she did.

She never forgot her Opp High School Class of 1955 classmates. She was active in the organization of their many class reunions. She enjoyed every reunion and seeing her old school friends.

She always loved being with family. She spent many happy hours sharing experiences and making memories with close and extended family members. We will miss her always. She lived a very full life and was thankful for her many blessings.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Juanita Blocker Rogers will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 11, 2026 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Andrew Knick will be officiating.
