Mr. John LaVelle Bean, age 74, of Opp, Alabama died Friday, April 10, 2020 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

John was born in Pennsylvania on March 26, 1946 to his late parents, Jean Layton Bean and Sherman LaVelle Bean. He served his country from 1966 – 1972 in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves. He retired from SHAW Industries.

Mr. Bean is survived by his significant other of 41 years, Phyllis Lansdon Bean; step-son, Michael McCarty & wife, Jan; grandchildren, Meagan Hancock & husband, Ryan, Morgan McCarty and Kelsey McCarty; great-grandchildren, Jayden Hancock, Addison Hancock and Ella Hancock; and several nieces. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Valerie Cook.

In consideration of community health and the State of Alabama public health orders that are in effect due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), a private graveside service will be held Monday April, 13, 2020 in Antioch Congregational Cemetery for immediate family members only. Gary Smith will be officiating with Wyatt Funeral Home directing.
