Collier, Jr.

George William Collier, Jr, a long-time resident of Opp, Alabama, passed away at the age of 100 on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Born on September 19, 1925 to George and Luzelle Collier, George, more commonly known by a variety of nicknames- JR, Junior, Heavy, Pop- lived most of his life in the small community where he was born.
George carried out the majority of his career as a delivery driver for the Colquett Oil Company and proudly served his country in the United States Army (Japan) from 1950-1955.
Mr. Collier was a kind and gentle man who was happiest when sitting on the porch, shelling peas, listening to the world go by. When he wasn't leading singing at Brooklyn Baptist Church, George enjoyed square dancing with the Diamond Squares, playing a friendly game of dominoes, watching Wheel of Fortune, and enjoying his daily snack of peanut butter crackers and a Coke.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Luzelle; his wife of 41 years, Mary Emma Collier; his wife of 30 years, Helen Dorman Collier; and his siblings, John Collier, Jim Collier, and Polly Barnes.
He is survived by his brother, Jack (Shirley) Collier of Dothan, AL; his bonus children, Donna Allen, David (Teri) Thompson, and Melinda (Richard) Gargiulo; grandchildren, Jessica (Barry) Klinger, Loren (Ally) Allen, Victoria (Alex) Lee, Kaden Allen, Elissa Gargiulo, and Will (Jordan) Thompson; eleven great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry his memory forward.
Funeral services for George William Collier, Jr. will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, December 15, 2025 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Wyatt Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. Rev. Drew Stringer will be officiating with Loren Allen, Kaden Allen, Christopher Collier, Barry Klinger, Christopher Stringer, and Nicholas Stringer serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either of the following:
