Mrs. Floree Gray Nowlin, age 79, of Piney Grove, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Mizell Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Nowlin was born in Coffee County, Alabama on September 9, 1945 and has lived in Piney Grove for the past 17 years following years long military spouse stations in Biloxi, Texas, Alaska and New Mexico. She graduated from Kinston High School and worked at Biloxi Broadwater Hotel, civil service for the 49th fighter squadron at Holloman AFB, and most recently at Goody's retail in Geneva. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. Nowlin loved life, family and faith and always had a friendly smile for everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents, T.B. and Lillian Gray; father & mother-in-law, Arliss Chapman Nowlin and Etta Wise Nowlin; brothers, James D. Gray and wife, Becky, Charles Davis and wife, Nellie, and Jack Davis and wife, Faye; brothers-in-law, Sam Nowlin, Jerry Nowlin, and Colon Hataway; and sisters-in-law, Janice Nowlin and Voncile Davis.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Mr. James Ranier Nowlin; son, Jason James Nowlin and wife, Susan; daughter, Kimberly Michele Nanney and husband, Doug; brothers, Rev. Robert Davis, Wayne (Dianne) Gray and Randall (Gale) Gray; sister, Faye Gray Nowlin; brother-in-law, Ferrell Nowlin; sister-in-law, Loretta (Tyler) Piland, Frances (J.T.) Abston and Mary Nell Hataway; grandchildren, Arya, Lyla, Brandon, and Shelby; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Floree Gray Nowlin will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 3, 2025 from Friendship Baptist Church in the Holley Store Community with Pastor Flint Harrelson from Blue Springs Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held at Wyatt Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 until 8, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow services. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason James Nowlin, Randall Gray, Wayne Gray, Douglas Gene Nanney, Brandon Michael Nanney, and Ryan Blue.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Nowlin has requested donations to the Friendship Cemetery or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
