Obituary

Evelyn Larigan, born Evelyn Graves and formerly known as Evelyn Williams, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Born on March 27, 1929, in Troy, Alabama; Evelyn was the daughter of Sarah Francis and William Henry Graves. She was the ninth of ten children, born just before her twin brother, Elkin.

Evelyn attended Troy State Teachers College, where she prepared for a lifelong career in education. She began teaching alongside her brother, Art, in schools near Blountstown and Sneads, Florida before moving to Opp, Alabama in 1953. She devoted 32 years to teaching at South Highlands Elementary School, where she faithfully served generations of students until her retirement in 1986.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. Having trusted the Lord as her Savior at a young age, Evelyn remained a devoted member of Opp First Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She joyfully served her church in countless ways, including as church historian, president of the Keenagers, organizer of Lenten luncheons, and caretaker of the church bulletin board. Whether documenting church events or family gatherings, Evelyn was rarely seen without a camera in her hand!

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John B. Williams, Sr.; her second husband, William M. Larigan; her son-in-law, Tracy Bundrick; her twin brother, Elkin; her other siblings; and her dear friend who was like family, Bill Shaw.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Williams (LuAnne); her daughter, Linda Bundrick; her grandchildren, Julie Lamb (Andy), John Williams (Emily), and Laura Hudson (Geoffrey); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Murray, J.B., and Luka Williams; Eva Grace Hudson; and Irelyn and Ozzie Lamb. She is also survived by her dear friend and chosen family, Judy Shaw.

Evelyn will be remembered for her faith in the Lord; how she served the church and those in need; her witty sense of humor and laughter; and her dedication to teaching others. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as a teacher, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Funeral services for Evelyn Larigan will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 9, 2026 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Jeff Stovall and John Williams will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Flowers are accepted, however please consider making a donation to Opp First Methodist Church or VITAS Healthcare (Hospice) in Pensacola, Florida.
