Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Bryan Wendt of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the Huntsville Hospital Hospice Facility after a brief battle with cancer.

Dorothy was born December 27, 1937 in Covington County to D J and Lorene Bryan, both deceased. She was raised in the Rose Hill Community. Mrs. Wendt received her BS in Education from Troy State College and her Master's Degree from Florida State University. Dorothy devoted much of her life to the teaching of mathematics, having very successfully coached Grissom High School's math team for several years. She was also an avid bridge player and a member of Latham Church in Huntsville.

Dorothy (known as "Dot" to some and "Dorothy Jean" to close family) is survived by her husband, Richard Wendt of Huntsville, Alabama and two children, Katrina Wendt of Alta Loma, California and Rich Wendt (Belinda) of Franklin, Tennessee. Her surviving grandchildren are Patrick Early of Alta Loma, California, Dylan Wendt of Franklin, Tennessee and Jessica Wendt of Franklin, Tennessee. Mrs. Wendt is survived by five siblings all in Alabama: Ferrell Bryan (Susan) of Athens, Myra Wheelock of Dozier, John Bryan (Rosemary) of Andalusia, Donald Bryan (Janet) of Andalusia and Margaret Lucas (Billy) of Dothan. She has several surviving nieces, nephews and bridge friends who loved her.

A graveside service for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Bryan Wendt will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery in the Rose Hill Community (37097 Straughn School Rd, Dozier, AL 36028).
