Mrs. Dorothy Ann Tolson Ennis, age 88, of the Opine Community passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024 in Mizell Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy was a wife, devoted mother and registered nurse. As an RN she worked in operating rooms in several major hospitals while accompanying her husband, who was in the Navy. She raised her two children while living in 9 different states, 38 different homes or apartments and 18 different school systems. After retiring from nursing, she accompanied her husband on numerous jobs including Adak, Alaska and Kuwait. In recent years, she resided with her family at 24824 Carlisle Road, Andalusia, AL 36421.

Throughout her travels she never lost faith in her family, God and country.

Mrs. Ennis is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, James Wathan Ennis, Sr.; son, James Wathan Ennis, Jr & wife, Yvette Brown Ennis; daughter, Desley Drena Ennis Cunningham; grandchildren, James Wathan Ennis, III, Andrea Christine Ennis Johnson & husband, Cory, and Cassidy Drena Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Bess Marie Ennis, T. J. Johnson, Lamar Johnson and Eliana Johnson; and six nieces & one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elizabeth Welch Tolson and Henry Percy Tolson; two brothers; and two sisters.

A time of celebration and visitation will be held at the Ennis home (24824 Carlisle Rd, Andalusia, Al 36421) from 1:30 until 3:30 pm Sunday, October 6, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
