Donovan "Don"
Wyatt
August 6, 1941 – May 30, 2023
Mr. Donovan "Don" Wyatt age 81 of Pine Mountain, Georgia, formerly from all over the state of Alabama, was born on August 6, 1941 to Garland B. "Coot" Wyatt and Brunetta "Bet" Bowdoin Wyatt and was raised in Opp, Alabama. He quietly passed away surrounded by love ones on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in Columbus, Georgia, after several years of health issues.
Don was foremost a Godly Man. He was also a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, companion, friend, leader, a giving man, a loving man and the list could go on and on.
Don was not afraid of hard work and, by the time he finished high school at the age of 17 held a number of jobs such as: farming with Grandmother Bowdoin, shining shoes, helping out with his father's taxi business, getting up at 3:30 a.m. and delivering bottles of milk for Red Presley's Barbara's Milk Company to the different homes in Opp. Don also worked for and performed some of the surgeries for Dr. Gaskton, DVM., he also held a job constructing the Opp Weave Room. Don also played football and basketball while maintaining his grades in school.
Don received a scholarship to The University of Montevallo, in Montevallo, Alabama. Here, he was among some of the first male students to attend the once all girl college. Oh, by the way, Don left hitch-hiking approximately 200 miles to school. While he was at Montevallo, Don worked in the cafeteria for his meals, he was Hall Mother (or Father for his room), and he even wrote term papers for extra money. It was during this time that Don joined The United States Marines.
After discharge from the military, Don went to work with The Bell Phone System beginning his career as a lineman and 31 years later left as the Montgomery district director for the state of Alabama. Following a short stint in real estate, he began his own consultancy focused on telecom operations. Here he helped telecom companies across the Southeast and Texas mature their operational excellence.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Valeria "Val" Joiner Wyatt, daughter Kathy Douglas Dawson, grandson Joseph Shane Collins, father and mother, Garland B. Wyatt and Brunetta Bowdoin Wyatt , grandparents, Thomas Benjamin "Benny" Wyatt and Lula Mae Tucker Wyatt, Connie Wilkerson Bowdoin, and Callie Fredonia "Dona" Spears Bowdoin, siblings Juan Victor Wyatt, Sr., Judy Garland Wyatt Cain, and Melissa Jane Wyatt Mitchell, and great-nephew Davis Christopher Owen Harper.
Don is waiting with open arms for these other family members and in Heaven; great-grands Natalie Faith Collins, Bentley Shane Collins-Curtis, partner Brenda Allen Whitten, siblings and spouses Dorothy Jean Cogburn Wyatt, Nancy Gayle Wyatt Tyler and husband William Fredrick Tyler, Donna Lu Wyatt Harper and husband Bobby "Bob" Gene Harper, Michael Dale Wyatt and wife Lora Charlene Cowen Wyatt, Joel Leslie Wyatt and wife Lori Ellen Clapper Wyatt, cherished friends Mike and Barbara (Bobbie) Miller, and many nieces and nephews across generations of loving family.
Funeral Services for Mr. Donovan Wyatt will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, June 25, 2023 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Sunday. Derwood Cleland will be officiating.
Flowers are certainly accepted but – in his true spartan nature – Don expressed a desire for memorials instead directed to people helping people focused charities of your choosing. Some that helped Donovan and Family later in life are Agape Hospice for Alabama and Georgia and The Landings of Columbus.
