Obituary

Clifton Donald Sasser, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina with his family by his side. Born on October 19, 1936, in Opp, Alabama, Clifton was the cherished son of Clifton Frank Sasser and Eula Sexton Sasser.

A dedicated servant to his country, Clifton honorably served as a Senior Analyst in the United States Navy for two decades. Following his military career, he continued to contribute significantly as a military contractor for another 20 years. His dedication to his profession and his country was unwavering.

Clifton was a remarkable man whose many interests included a passion for the great outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and cultivating his garden. His enthusiasm for collecting guns and his love for reading were well known to family and friends. Clifton was known for his strong will and meticulous planning, qualities that served him well throughout his life.

A man of faith and community involvement, Clifton was a member of Harrellsville Methodist Church and a proud Mason. He graduated from Opp High School and pursued studies at Troy University, always valuing education and personal growth. Clifton Donald Sasser will be remembered as a devoted serviceman, a loving family man, and a true gentleman. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Sasser; and his daughter, Mona Rochelle Sasser. Clifton's memory will be cherished by his surviving sons, Steven Sasser and his wife Carol of Colerain, NC; Richard Sasser of Norfolk, Va., and David Sasser of Colerain, NC. His legacy also lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Christina Bragge of Jamesville, NC; Brennan Clifton Sasser and his wife Erikca of New Bern, NC; Jonathan Sasser of Colerain, NC; Christopher Mark Sasser of Moyock, NC; Bryan Keith Sasser and his wife Alisha of Camp Lejeune, NC; Preston Sasser of Hertford, NC; Madelyne Grace Sasser of Edenton, NC; Troy Sasser of Hertford, NC; and Jed Sasser of Hertford, NC. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Lily Silverthorne, Alexsyia Villagomez, Addyson Sasser, Ayden Sasser, and Ophelia Sasser.

A graveside service to honor Clifton's life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Opp City Cemetery in Opp, Alabama. Rev. Wayne Sharpe will be officiating with Wyatt Funeral Home directing. The family invites all those who cherished Clifton's life and legacy to join them in remembrance.
