Mr. Clayton Farrice Norris, Jr., age 77, of Opp, Alabama passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at his home.

Clayton was born in Andalusia, Alabama on April 6, 1948.  He moved to Searight, Alabama when he was in the 8th grade.  While in high school, he met his sweetheart, Mary Ellen Merrill.  Clayton and Mary Ellen were married on July 25, 1969.

After graduating from Dozier High School, Mr. Norris served in the Air Force for 4 years.  He then attended Troy State University on the GI bill and received a Bachelor of Education degree with a concentration in teaching history.  He later completed a Master of Education degree with specialization in higher education administration from Alabama State University.  Mr. Norris taught Alabama history, geography, US history, government, and economics at Opp High School for 25 years.   He then went on to serve as Assistant Principal and later Principal at Opp High School for 5 years.  He also served as a football and basketball coach at Opp Middle School and Opp High School.

Clayton was preceded in death by both his parents, Clayton Farrice Norris Sr. and Faye Kirkland Norris.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Norris; two sons, Clayton (Tripp) Farrice Norris III and Kirk Merrill Norris (Leslie); two grandsons, Brady Evan Norris and Tyler Drew Norris;  one sister, Terry Myers (Gary); one sister-in-law, Sarah Merrill Spurlin; and several nieces and nephews, Donnie Merrill (Beth), Karla Bundy (Matthew), Jill Spurlin, Melanie Howard (Reed), Jay Spurlin (Shannan), and Matthew Hammett (Selena).

Funeral services for Mr. Clayton Farrice Norris, Jr. will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, September 15, 2025 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Good Hope Cemetery in Dozier. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Brian Smith and Rev. Wayne Sharpe will be officiating with Tripp Norris, Kirk Norris, Jay Spurlin, Matthew Hammett, Donny Merrill and Gary Myers serving as pallbearers.
