Mr. Christopher Taft Cotter, age 80, of Opp, Alabama passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Chris was comforted at his time of death by his daughter, Rhonda; and family & friends.
Chris was born April 23, 1944, in Opp, Alabama. He was the son of Ouita Cotter, who died during childbirth, and was raised by his uncle & aunt, Cecil & Oma Cotter. Chris attended Opp City Schools, served in the U.S. Army, and worked as a weaver at Opp & Micholas Mills.
Chris enjoyed fishing and making his own homemade top water lures. He enjoyed many days of bass fishing with cut off rods and a Zebco 33 on the banks of Lightwood Knot creek. What made Chris special was his sense of humor and always had a joke and would make you smile.
Remaining to cherish his memory is his daughter, Rhonda Cotter Cotton & husband, Jimmy Wade; grandchildren, Jade Cotton DeGone & husband, Jon Mikel and Jesi Cotton Ryerson & husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Harper Ann and Jon Wade; daughter, Nettie Rena Curce & husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Sharon Prater and Curtis Prater; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madison, Joseph, and Harper; brother, Craig Cooper; sister, Shelia Cooper McKenzie; and long-time friend, Donnie Schofield. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ouita Cotter; and parents, Cecil and Oma Cotter.
The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
