Mr. Charles Hilson Smith, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026. He was born on June 19, 1942, in Walton County, Florida, to Charles and Marie Smith.

He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Donie Smith of Opp, Alabama.

Charles dedicated much of his life to hard work and service. He spent 30 years with Okaloosa Gas before retiring, after which he continued doing what he loved by founding and operating Charles H. Smith Heating and Air Conditioning for 25 years. His work was more than a career—it was a reflection of his character, built on reliability, skill, and a commitment to helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Donie Smith; son, Jeff Smith, and grandsons Hilson and Holden Smith; son, David Smith (Sharon), and grandchildren Murphy and Morgan Smith; daughter, Shari Slatton (James), and grandchildren Reece, Reagan, and Jack Knowlton; brothers, Trammel Smith (Margaret), William Smith (Vickie), Terry Smith (Cindy); and sisters, Bettie Windham and Barbara Croxton. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Smith, and his daughter, Cathy Smith.

Charles will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend—a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and lived with quiet strength and integrity. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the lives he touched.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Hilson Smith will be held at 11:00 am Thursday April 9, 2026 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
