Betty Jane Short, age 81, of the Babbie Community, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jane was born on December 28, 1942 in Andalusia, Alabama.

Jane was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend who left a lasting impression on everyone she met with her warmth and kindness. She was famous for her incredible buttermilk biscuits and her beautiful, thriving garden. For years, she dedicated herself to teaching Sunday School at Babbie Baptist Church, where she inspired countless young hearts.

Jane was the kind of friend who always had a pot of coffee brewing and a homemade snack ready for any neighbor who stopped by for a visit. She had a special talent for sewing, creating countless outfits for her children and grandchildren with love and care. In the summer, you could often find her picking and shelling peas on the porch, and when autumn rolled around, she'd be in the kitchen, whipping up one of her delicious pecan pies. Jane's presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and her memory will live on in the lives she touched.

Jane is survived by her husband of 63 years, Holland Short; her children Chris (Vicky) Short, Dawn Short, and Kelley (Chris) Fore; her grandchildren, Jesse Kelley (Alex Piper), Bradley (Amber) Anderson, and Case Short; and her great-grandchildren, Kyle, Addison, Amelia & Emmy. She is predeceased by her mother, Cassie Melton and father, Ervin Melton.

Jane was cared for by a dedicated team of caregivers from Aveanna Hospice, as well as, JoAnn Dixon, Gloria Rogers, LaTisha Rodgers, Stephanie Batchelor, Penny Viles, and Candice Hamilton

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in Babbie Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and celebrating Jane's life.
