With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Jo Wilkes Bedingfield Hattaway, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on May 30, 2024. Betty left us peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 89.
Born on September 8, 1934, in Opp, Alabama, Betty was the daughter of the late Joe Frank and Ruby Wilkes. Betty graduated from Opp High School, where she developed lifelong friendships and a love for education.
Betty was preceded in death by Dick Bedingfield, her former husband and the father of her two sons; the late Harold Hattaway; and her brother, Terry Wilkes. She is survived by her sons, Robert Charles Bedingfield (Patricia) and David Wilkes Bedingfield; her grandchildren, Christy Bedingfield Wright (Michael), Russell Charles Bedingfield (Kasey), Matthew Adam Bedingfield (Ellen), and Ashley Bedingfield Revis (TG); and her seven great-grandchildren.
Betty was a resident of Opp, Alabama. She was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church for many years, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her greatest joy was her family and her relationship with God.
A passionate pianist from the age of five, Betty's love for music was evident throughout her life. She often played at church services and community events, bringing joy and inspiration to all who heard her play.
A graveside service celebrating Betty's life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Opp, Alabama.
